Substance CS Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium Washington State wine crafted by renowned winemaker Charles Smith from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from Goose Ridge, Painted Hills, Badger Mountain, and Sportfisher vineyards in the Columbia Valley. This bold, full-bodied red wine undergoes whole berry fermentation and spends 35 days on the skins before aging for 11 months in French oak barriques (25% new).
The wine presents aromas of blueberry, raspberry, black cherry, vanilla, cedar, chocolate, violets, pencil shavings, and hints of mint. On the palate, it delivers juicy candied cherry and berry fruit with layers of licorice, cola, and vanilla-soaked ripe fruit. The wine is structured, balanced, and very dry with no residual sugar. It finishes long and grippy with excellent concentration from the warm 2021 vintage.
This wine consistently earns 90+ point ratings from critics and wine reviewers, making it an exceptional value at the Costco price point. The 2021 vintage is described as one of the warmest on record in Washington, producing small berries with incredible concentration, resulting in a distinct and lovely wine with fantastic aging potential.
