Château du Glana is a Grand Vin from the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc, Left Bank Bordeaux, France. The estate was founded in 1870 and has been owned by the Meffre family since 1961, who undertook extensive renovations in the 1960s and again in 2003 and 2015 to bring the property to modern standards. Today it remains one of the last non-classified growths in the Saint-Julien appellation, offering exceptional value in a legendary commune neighbored by Ducru-Beaucaillou, Château Beychevelle, and Langoa Barton.
The 59-hectare vineyard is planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot on gravel-based soils at an average vine age of 25 years. Vinification takes place in traditional cement vats, followed by 12 months of aging in 40% new French oak barrels. The 2019 vintage, rated 92 points by CostcoWineBlog.com and 90 points by The Wine Cellar Insider, shows a dark purple color with aromas of black fruit, spice, and subtle oak. On the palate it is medium-bodied and silky, with integrated tannins and flavors of blackberry, black cherry, plum, and currant, with notes of cocoa, herbs, fennel, and peppery spice leading into an earthy, leathery finish.
Best served at 15.5°C (60°F) after decanting for approximately one hour. Ideal drinking window runs from 2022 to 2035. Pairs well with beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, pasta, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses. Available in cases of 6 or 12 bottles. Alcohol: 14.5%.
