Bonterra's 'The Roost' is a single-vineyard Chardonnay sourced exclusively from the Blue Heron Ranch in Mendocino County, California. The estate vineyard is nestled between the upper Russian River and a protected blue heron nesting site, and is farmed using Regenerative Organic and biodynamic practices. Bonterra is America's #1 organic winery, and this wine carries Regenerative Organic Certified, Certified Organic, Certified B Corp, and TRUE Zero Waste certifications.

The wine is crafted from two complementary Chardonnay clones: Dijon 96, which contributes aromatic elegance, sharp focus, and good concentration with aging potential, and Clone 4, which preserves the wine's bright natural acidity. Together they produce a bold yet nuanced expression of Mendocino Chardonnay. Bright and aromatic on the nose, it opens with lemon rind and honeysuckle, leading into a full, smooth palate of tangerine and pineapple with subtle hints of magnolia and white tea. The texture and viscosity are excellent, uplifted by fresh acidity and a clean, minerally finish.

The 2022 vintage earned 93 points from Wine Enthusiast, 96 points from The Tasting Panel, and Gold at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Wine Enthusiast's Tonya Pitts described it as "fresh, luscious, youthful stone fruit, citrus blossoms, interlaced baking spices, fried banana, melon, white flowers, zipping into zesty lemon, Kaffir lime, baked apple with a minerally finish."
