Yalumba The Octavius is a flagship Shiraz sourced from some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world, with plantings dating back to 1854 in Australia's Barossa Valley. The wine draws fruit from six vineyards across the Barossa, with 69% sourced from Eden Valley and 31% from the Barossa Valley, giving it an average vine age of over 111 years. Eden Valley contributes exotic aromatics and seamless palate structure, while Barossa Valley provides richness, density, and concentration.

The wine is matured for 21 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques, hogsheads, and the distinctive 100-litre "octave" barrels handcrafted on-site at Yalumba's cooperage — the inspiration behind the wine's name. The term "octave" refers to a barrel one-eighth the size of a standard barrel, a tradition carried on by Yalumba's own coopers. This wine is certified vegan, sustainably produced, and Yalumba-owned from vine to bottle.

Deep red in color with purple hues, the 2018 vintage offers alluring aromas of dark red cherries, red licorice, red raspberries, and violet fruits. On the palate it is generous, rich, and elegantly balanced, combining the freshness of Eden Valley with the depth and concentration of the Barossa. The finish is classically firm with superb mineral length. Critics have praised it as "almost perfect," awarding it 99 points and recommending cellaring through 2028–2050.
