Drappier Carte d'Or Brut is the signature non-vintage cuvée from Drappier, one of Champagne's most respected grower-négociant houses, established in 1808 and based in Urville in the Côte des Bar, Aube. With over 100 hectares of estate vineyards planted primarily on Kimmeridgian limestone soils, Drappier is recognized as a pioneer of Pinot Noir in the Aube, and that heritage is evident in this wine.
The Carte d'Or is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay, and 5% Pinot Meunier, with 40% reserve wines incorporated to ensure consistency and complexity across vintages. A portion of the dosage liqueur is matured in oak for one year, adding subtle richness. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation and is produced with minimal sulfur additions, reflecting Drappier's commitment to sustainable and biodynamic practices. It is disgorged at 6.5 g/L, placing it firmly in the Brut style.
In the glass, it pours a luminous golden hue. Aromas lead with white cherry, tart raspberry, pithy mandarin, ginger, and lemon peel, underpinned by a delicate biscuit note and a crisp, Kimmeridgian limestone-driven minerality. The structured Pinot Noir backbone gives the wine the weight and presence to complement food, particularly shellfish, crab, and lobster. Critic reviews average 89 points from 40 assessments. This Costco purchase is a case of 12 bottles, each 750mL.
