Market Vineyards Derivative Red is a Bordeaux-style red blend from Washington State's Columbia Valley, produced and cellared by DC Flynt MW Selections (the "DF" designation). Each vintage blends classic Bordeaux grape varieties, typically including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, with the precise composition varying by year. Recent vintages have been centered on Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot and Malbec, coming in at approximately 13.8% ABV.
The wine opens with aromas of dark fruit, cocoa, vanilla, and warm spice, leading to a palate of cherry, plum, and bramble flavors supported by generous tannins and a smooth, approachable finish. It has been a Costco exclusive since 2014 and has earned community ratings around 89-90 points, praised as an excellent everyday drinking wine with enough structure to pair well with red meats, grilled proteins, pasta with red sauce, and aged cheeses.
Columbia Valley is Washington State's premier wine-growing region, benefiting from a high-desert climate with extreme seasonal temperature swings, long sunny days, and the protective rain shadow of the Cascade mountain range. These conditions yield deeply flavorful, well-structured red wines. Sold as a case of 12 x 750ml bottles.
