Poggio Stella Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG is a classic Tuscan red wine produced by Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano, a historic cooperative winery based in the hilltop town of Montepulciano in southern Tuscany, Italy. The wine carries the prestigious DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) designation — Italy's highest wine classification — and is crafted primarily from Prugnolo Gentile, the local clone of Sangiovese, with small additions of other permitted varieties such as Canaiolo and Mammolo.
Nobile di Montepulciano is aged for a minimum of two years, including time in oak barrels, in accordance with DOCG regulations. The result is a structured, medium-to-full-bodied red wine with flavors of red cherry, dried plum, leather, tobacco, and earthy spice, underpinned by firm tannins and lively acidity. The Poggio Stella bottling offers approachable character within this noble Tuscan appellation, making it an excellent value for the style.
This wine pairs well with grilled and roasted meats, wild boar, lamb, pasta with meat ragù, and aged Pecorino or Parmigiano cheeses. Sold individually in a standard 750 mL bottle.
