Black Slate Red Blend is a distinctive red wine from the Priorat DOCa in Catalonia, Spain, produced by Bodegas Mas Alta in the village of La Vilella Alta. The Black Slate project draws inspiration from Burgundy's village-level terroir concept, applied to Priorat's nine historic villages, each with its own distinct character.

The wine is a blend of Garnacha and Carinyena with smaller additions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The vines range from 15 to 60 years old, grown on the region's iconic licorella (black slate) and clay-limestone soils at elevations between 250 and 450 meters. Grapes are hand-harvested and partially destemmed before fermentation in concrete vessels with a 30-day maceration. The wine is aged for 12 months, split evenly between concrete tanks and French oak barrels.

Bodegas Mas Alta is a joint project involving renowned Rhône négociant and winemaker Michel Tardieu and noted French enologist Philippe Cambie. The name "Black Slate" references the licorella slate soils that define Priorat's terroir and impart the wine's distinctive mineral character. The wine typically carries around 15% ABV and is well-suited to grilled meats, braised lamb, and aged cheeses.
