Fontanafredda Barolo DOCG is an exceptional Italian red wine produced by one of Piedmont's most storied estates in Serralunga d'Alba, presented here in a generous 1.5L magnum format. Made entirely from Nebbiolo — the noble grape of Piedmont — this wine carries the prestigious Barolo DOCG designation, often called the "King of Italian Wines."
Fontanafredda's 250-acre estate in Serralunga d'Alba is the single largest contiguous wine estate in the Langhe, with vineyards situated at 300–400 meters elevation on south and south-west facing slopes. The Serralunga soils, rich in limestone and grey marl alternating with sand, impart the wine's characteristic structure and longevity. The wine undergoes 15-day fermentation with extended maceration for optimal phenolic extraction, followed by aging in a combination of barriques and large 2,000L oak casks, then additional bottle aging before release.
This Barolo offers a classic Nebbiolo profile with aromas of potpourri, dried roses, cherry, leather, earth, and truffle, with a full-bodied palate delivering notes of red plum, licorice, cinnamon, and exotic spice. Firm yet velvety tannins and bright acidity give it excellent aging potential. The 1.5L magnum format is ideal for cellaring, as the larger bottle size slows oxidation and allows the wine to develop more gracefully over time. Pairs beautifully with braised meats, aged cheeses, truffles, and hearty Italian dishes.
