Château Bouscassé Madiran is a structured, full-bodied red wine from Alain Brumont's home estate in Madiran, Gascony, in the Southwest of France. The estate spans 123 acres of clay-limestone terroir along a cliff in the commune of Maumusson-Laguian, a site historically known as "Le Pied de Cote Saint Emilion." The wine is a blend of 60% Tannat, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc, sourced from vines ranging from 25 to 70 years old in select plots of the Bouscassé vineyard.
The wine undergoes an extended maceration of 30 to 45 days to tame the Tannat grape's naturally assertive tannins, followed by 36 months of aging in barrels and 80-hectoliter oval wooden casks. It is then aged for an additional two years in bottle before release, resulting in remarkable complexity and structure for its price. It is vegan-friendly, bottled by SAS Alain Brumont, and imported by Wine Situation LLC. Alcohol content is 13.5%.
On the nose, it offers an expressive, opened bouquet of red and dark berries, black pepper, dark chocolate, cola, leather, and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, it is tannic, dense, and full of vibrant fruit with polished, velvety tannins and a long, fresh, grippy finish. This wine has earned 94 Points from Wine Enthusiast and 93+ Points from Wine Advocate, and rewards patience — it continues to evolve for hours after opening and improves further on day two. Ideal with red meats and spicy dishes. Best served at 62–64°F.
