Bolla Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is a prestigious Italian red wine from the Veneto region, bearing Italy's highest wine classification (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita). Sold as a case of six 750ml bottles, it represents one of Italy's most celebrated and full-bodied red wine styles. Bolla holds a historic place in the Amarone tradition, having been the first winery in Verona to commercially produce the style in 1953, though the technique of using semi-dried grapes dates back centuries.
The wine is a blend of Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes crafted using the traditional appassimento method, in which harvested grapes are dried for several months to concentrate their sugars and flavors before pressing. Following fermentation, the wine is matured in oak barrels for three years and aged an additional year in bottle before release, developing remarkable depth and complexity.
Deep ruby red in color, the wine opens with a rich, complex nose of black cherry, prune, raisin, and cedar spice. On the palate, concentrated fruit flavors take center stage, framed by dry, structured tannins and a long, satisfying finish of tobacco and ripe berries. Its alcohol by volume ranges from 14% to 16.5%, reflecting the intensity of the appassimento process. It pairs beautifully with beef, lamb, game meats such as venison, and bold blue cheeses.
