Premium farm-raised black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) in the colossal U-8 size, meaning under 8 shrimp per pound. These are among the largest shrimp available, with each shrimp roughly the size of your palm. Black tiger shrimp are native to the Indo-Pacific region and are the largest shrimp species in the world, featuring distinctive dark tiger-like black stripes running horizontally along their grayish-brown shells.
These shrimp offer a sweeter, more subtle flavor compared to wild shrimp varieties, with a softer, less chewy texture when cooked. The firm yet tender flesh makes them ideal for grilling, broiling, sautéing, or baking. For best results, grill or broil for 2-3 minutes per side, sauté on high heat for 1-2 minutes per side, or bake at 400°F for 5-7 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 120°F.
Farm-raised black tiger shrimp are typically BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices) certified and earn "Good Alternative" or "Best Choice" ratings from Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch when sourced from Thailand, Indonesia, Ecuador, Honduras, or Mexico. They provide protein, omega-3 fatty acids, selenium, vitamins, and minerals.
