Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino is a prestigious Italian red wine produced by Tenuta Il Poggione, one of the most celebrated and long-established estates in Montalcino, Tuscany. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese — known locally as Brunello — this wine carries the coveted DOCG designation, Italy's highest quality classification. The 3-liter double magnum format makes it an exceptional centerpiece for special occasions and an outstanding candidate for long-term cellaring, as larger formats age more gracefully than standard bottles.
Il Poggione has been farming the hills of Sant'Angelo in Colle in southern Montalcino for over a century. Under the guidance of longtime cellar master Fabrizio Bindocci and the Franceschi family, the estate produces one of the most consistent and classically styled Brunellos in the appellation. The wine is fermented in traditional large Slavonian oak casks, yielding a structured, complex wine with deep aromas of dark cherry, dried rose petals, tobacco, leather, and mineral earthiness. The palate delivers vibrant acidity and firm, refined tannins that integrate beautifully with age and provide an exceptionally long, elegant finish.
By DOCG law, Brunello di Montalcino must be aged a minimum of five years before release, including at least two years in oak. The wine pairs magnificently with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, roasted lamb, wild boar ragu, aged Pecorino di Pienza, and rich pasta dishes with meat-based sauces. Collectors and enthusiasts will find this 3-liter format ideal for laying down, with great vintages capable of developing beautifully for 20 to 30 years or more.
