Ulysses Cabernet Sauvignon is a prestigious Napa Valley red wine produced by Christian Moueix, the legendary Bordeaux winemaker behind Dominus Estate and Petrus. Introduced starting with the 2012 vintage, Ulysses is sourced from a single 31.5-acre estate vineyard on the Oakville Bench — historically known as Schmidt Ranch, with roots dating to 1873. The vineyard sits adjacent to some of Napa's most celebrated terroir, including Missouri Hopper Ranch, Vine Hill Ranch, and To Kalon.
The wine is a Bordeaux-style blend dominated by approximately 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, rounded out with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vineyard is 100% dry farmed with high vine density using double Guyot trellising. After harvest, the wine is aged for approximately 20 months in 45% new French oak barrels, with production intentionally limited to around 800 cases per year.
In the glass, Ulysses expresses earthy, truffle-laced aromas alongside fresh black cherry, black currant, and floral notes of violet and lilac. The palate is medium-bodied and finesse-driven, with firm yet refined tannins and a complex, elegant mouthfeel. It has received scores as high as 96 points from respected critics.
Best served at around 60°F (15.5°C). Decanting for one to three hours is recommended for younger vintages. Pairs well with grilled and roasted meats, lamb, duck, game, and hearty stews.
