El Enemigo Cabernet Franc is a red wine produced by Bodega Aleanna in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina. The estate is co-owned by Alejandro Vigil, one of Argentina's most celebrated winemakers, and Adrianna Catena of the renowned Catena family. Vineyards are situated at approximately 4,700 feet elevation in the Gualtallary subzone of Tupungato, where the high-altitude climate and limestone-rich soils contribute to the wine's distinctive character.
The wine is composed primarily of Cabernet Franc with a small percentage of Malbec, and is aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 20% new. It presents aromas of red cherry, dark berry, fresh herbs, cedar, leather, graphite, and black pepper, with hints of crushed rock. On the palate, flavors of dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, vanilla, and black pepper develop across the mid-palate, with a structured, elegant finish. Residual sugar is approximately 3.0 g/L. The wine has consistently earned critical scores in the 92โ93 point range.
El Enemigo Cabernet Franc represents exceptional value at its Costco price point, offering complexity and depth typically associated with much higher-priced Argentine reds. It pairs well with grilled meats, lamb, roasted vegetables, and aged cheeses.
