The Barboursville Octagon is the flagship wine from Barboursville Vineyards in Virginia, crafted only in the finest vintages and with the most astute selection from each harvest. It is a harmonious, estate-grown Bordeaux blend driven by Merlot, with contributions from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot — representing the highest expression of the winery's European heritage and inspiration, designed for distinctive character and long-term aging.

The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks for 5–7 days and macerated for 10–20 days depending on the varietal. It is then aged 12 to 14 months in new Gamba barriques crafted from the finest French oak, air-dried a minimum of three years before coopering, and laid down in bottle for an additional six months before release. It carries 14.3% alcohol, 0.0% residual sugar, and 0.52% total acidity.

The label reproduces the floor plan of the Governor James Barbour mansion, designed by Thomas Jefferson. The octagonal dining room inside the historic "Ruins" was where close friends gathered and enjoyed great wines — inspiring both the name Octagon and the iconic Ruins symbol of Barboursville Vineyards.
