La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 is one of Spain's most celebrated and collectible Rioja wines, produced only in vintages deemed exceptional by the winery. This 750 ML bottle is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano, with Tempranillo grapes sourced from the estate's own vineyards in Villalba, Briñas, and Rodezno, and Graciano from the Montecillo vineyard in Fuenmayor. Grapes are handpicked in small crates with an initial cluster selection in the vineyard, transported refrigerated to preserve their integrity, and undergo natural alcoholic and malolactic fermentation.

The wine is aged for four years in American oak barrels averaging 4.5 years of age, with traditional racking performed every six months. It pours a deep garnet red with a bright, lively ruby rim. The nose is highly complex, with initial notes of wild red berries, black cherry, and blueberries giving way to aromas of tobacco, black pepper, tea leaves, coffee, mocha, vanilla, and cinnamon. On the palate it is refined, balanced, and elegant, with outstanding freshness and polished silky tannins that lead to a sophisticated, lingering finish. Flavors of black cherry, pomegranate, and plum carry through with vibrant acidity throughout.

Alcohol content is 14.5% ABV. Scores include 97 points from James Suckling, 96 from Guia Peñin, 96 from Tim Atkin MW, and 96 from Robert Parker. Ideal for pairing with red meats, fish dishes that are not too spicy, and chocolate desserts. It can also be enjoyed as an after-dinner wine and has excellent aging potential for the cellar.
