A 5-inch potted Phalaenopsis orchid, commonly known as the moth orchid, one of the longest-blooming orchid varieties producing flowers that last 2 to 6 months. Phalaenopsis orchids can bloom 2 to 3 times per year once mature. This variety thrives in bright, indirect light such as an east-facing window and prefers temperatures between 70°F to 80°F during the day and 60°F to 65°F at night.

The orchid is potted in a light, porous medium designed to hold moisture while draining thoroughly. These orchids prefer to be kept fairly moist, with the potting media becoming only slightly damp between waterings. During warm weather, watering may be needed twice weekly. Humidity levels between 50% and 70% are ideal and can be achieved with a humidity tray or humidifier.

After the first flowering, cutting the stem just above the node where the first flower bloomed encourages a new flower spike to emerge within 2 months.
