The Ficus Lyrata, commonly known as the Fiddle Leaf Fig, is one of the most popular and recognizable houseplants, prized for its large, glossy violin-shaped leaves that add a lush tropical elegance to any indoor space. This standard tree form variety features a single trunk with leaves arranged in a sculptural upright growth pattern, making it ideal for large rooms and statement displays.
This plant ships in a 14-inch grower's pot containing 6.5 gallons (24.66 liters) of soil, with an average height of 5-6 feet at shipping. The Fiddle Leaf Fig thrives in bright, indirect light near an east-facing or north-facing window, though morning sun exposure until about 10 AM is acceptable. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the distinctive large leaves.
Water when the top 50% of soil has dried out, typically every 1-2 weeks depending on season and humidity. Provide approximately 3 cups of room temperature water evenly across the soil surface, ensuring excess water drains completely to prevent root rot. This tropical plant prefers temperatures between 60°F and 75°F and benefits from moderate humidity. Fertilize sparingly in spring and summer only using a balanced houseplant fertilizer.
The Ficus Lyrata may drop some lower leaves in response to environmental changes or relocation shock, which is normal adaptation behavior. Note that this plant contains natural toxins and may cause discomfort if ingested by humans or pets, and the sap may cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals. Grown for ornamental purposes only.
