Bodegas Los Toneles is an Argentine winery founded in 1922, producing wines from the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza. The Tonel 78 Barrel Select is a premium red blend named after the iconic barrel number 78 from the winery's barrel selection program, where only the finest barrels are chosen for the final cuvée.

This wine is a 50/50 blend of Malbec and Bonarda grapes sourced from two distinct Mendoza vineyard sites. The Malbec comes from the Flowers View Vineyard at 3,200 feet elevation, where stony, well-drained soils produce structured, mineral-driven fruit. The Bonarda is sourced from the Medrano Vineyard at 2,200 feet, featuring deep sandy loam that yields round, ripe character. Bonarda, originally from Italy, thrives in Mendoza's unique terroir, contributing richness and balance to the blend.

The grapes are vinified separately in concrete tanks following a cold soak, with a 20-day maceration under temperature-controlled conditions. The wine is then transferred to French oak barrels and aged for 8 months before the best barrels are selected and blended. The wine offers aromas of ripe dark berry, blackberry, plum, cocoa powder, and spice, with a full-bodied palate, fresh acidity, and dense, chewy tannins. A smoky mineral and wood spice character lingers on the finish. The 2017 vintage received 93 points from Wine Advocate and averages 89.8 points on CellarTracker. Alcohol 14.0%.
