The Neyers Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is a single-vineyard red wine from Neyers Vineyards, sourced from Bruce and Barbara Neyers' own 50-acre Conn Valley Ranch in Napa Valley, California. The vineyard was planted in 1992 by renowned viticulturist David Abreu at elevations above 600 feet on rocky terrain rich with volcanic basalt—placing it among the rare 10% of Napa Valley sites considered capable of producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon.
Bruce and Barbara Neyers founded the winery guided by the principles of traditional French winemaking, influenced by Bruce's years working with importer Kermit Lynch. All grapes are hand-harvested into small half-ton bins and meticulously hand-sorted at the winery. Winemaker Tadeo Borchardt employs a natural approach, using no cultured yeasts or laboratory-designed malo-lactic starters, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration. Aging takes place in custom French oak barrels crafted from wood air-dried for three years—two years longer than industry standard.
In the glass, the wine displays a bright ruby to dark purple color with aromas of wild cherries, chocolate, fresh tobacco leaf, blackberries, cassis, cocoa powder, charcoal, and roasted herbs. The full-bodied palate delivers rich, concentrated fruit framed by chewy tannins, with notes of boysenberry, mulberry, singed applewood, and licorice on the finish. The wine has earned 91 points from James Suckling and 91 points from Wine Spectator, with the Ranch-designated bottling receiving 93 points from Wine Spectator. A cellar-worthy Napa Cabernet with strong aging potential. 750ML bottle.
