Nikka Yoichi Single Malt is a bold and sophisticated Japanese whisky from Nikka's first distillery, established in 1934 in Hokkaido. Founder Masataka Taketsuru chose Yoichi for its cold, humid climate and quality water similar to Highland Scotland, where he learned whisky-making. This single malt is produced using rare direct coal-fired copper pot stills, creating a robust and roasted character that sets it apart from other Japanese whiskies.

The whisky is characterized by refined peaty notes, maritime brininess, and rich malty flavors. Tasting notes include smoky and medicinal peat, savory oak influence with vanilla, coconut, nutmeg, caramel, and cedar from former Bourbon barrels. Additional notes of lemon zest, pineapple, fresh flowers, almond, milk chocolate, and leather create a complex and layered profile. The whisky has a firm body with moderate peat influence, balanced by fruity and floral elements.

This no age statement version debuted in 2016, blending older and younger stocks to maintain quality during high demand. At 45% ABV, it offers a bold yet refined drinking experience. The whisky has earned recognition including a Gold Medal at the 2020 World Whiskies Awards. Best served neat, on the rocks, or with a splash of water, it also excels in cocktails like highballs, Manhattans, and Old Fashioneds. Pairs exceptionally well with raw oysters, shellfish, smoked salmon, grilled steak, and chocolate desserts.
