Val delle Rose Aurelio is a Super Tuscan red blend from the DOC Maremma Toscana appellation in coastal southern Tuscany, Italy. Produced by the historic Cecchi family at their Val delle Rose estate in Poggio la Mozza, Grosseto, this wine was pioneering in the Maremma region when the winery was founded in 1996. Today the estate spans 150 hectares and is the largest winery in the Morellino di Scansano appellation. This Costco offering is a case of 6 bottles, each 750ml, at 15% ABV.
The Aurelio is a blend of approximately 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, sourced from feldspathic quartz sandstone soils with a Mediterranean climate influence. Grapes undergo prolonged skin contact fermentation in steel tanks at 25°C with 15 days of maceration, followed by 12 months of aging in French oak barriques and at least 6 months of bottle aging before release. The wine earned 95 points from James Suckling (2021 vintage).
In the glass it is an intense ruby red, revealing aromas of black fruits, coffee, and chocolate. On the palate it is full-bodied with long persistence and well-integrated, velvety tannins. Val delle Rose practices sustainable and organic viticulture across its estate.
