Louis Latour Grand Ardèche Chardonnay is a premium Chardonnay produced by the renowned Burgundian négociant Maison Louis Latour, sourced from the Ardèche valley in southern France. First established in 1979, the estate's clay and limestone-based soils produce grapes that are vinified in the same tradition as the great white Burgundies.
The grapes are harvested mechanically from vines averaging 20 years of age, then fermented traditionally in French oak barrels produced at Louis Latour's own cooperage in Beaune. The wine undergoes complete malolactic fermentation and is aged for a minimum of 10 months in French oak barrels (25% new, medium toasted), yielding a Burgundian-style Chardonnay at a remarkable price point.
The wine presents a golden color with green highlights and offers characteristic aromas of toasted bread, vanilla, and almond. On the palate it is rich and full-bodied, with notes of ripe apple, pear, citrus, and subtle hazelnut, underpinned by a creamy texture and well-balanced acidity. Wine Enthusiast called it "a rich and classy Chardonnay that puts many far more expensive Burgundies to shame," while The Washington Post described it as "full of dead-on Burgundian aromas of toast, fresh hay and pear" that "could easily pass for a Meursault-Village in a blind tasting." It has earned accolades including 96 points at the Sommeliers Choice Awards and a Coup de Coeur from the Guide Hachette.
Best served at 10–12°C, this wine pairs beautifully with shellfish, fish, charcuterie, roast chicken, and foie gras. It has a cellaring potential of 3–5 years.
