Marietta Cellars Angeli Zinfandel is an estate-grown single vineyard red wine from Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California. The wine is sourced from the historic Angeli Ranch, a property settled in 1886 whose vineyards span gravel swales along the Russian River and terraced knolls on the valley floor. The site's dramatic terrain produces a wine that is both powerful and elegant.
Crafted primarily from Zinfandel with small additions of Petite Sirah and Syrah, the Angeli Zinfandel is produced under organic and sustainable farming practices. It is aged for 15 months in neutral barrels, preserving the pure fruit character of the site. Approximately 1,000 cases are produced annually. The wine typically reaches 14.8% alcohol by volume.
The wine pours a deep scarlet with plum-edged hues. The nose opens with ripe cherry, blood peach, marzipan, violet, black tea, and warm spice. On the palate it is velvety and full-bodied with a bright core of acidity and a dry, textured finish. It drinks well on release and can be cellared for up to a decade. It has received high scores from critics including Antonio Galloni of Vinous (94 points) and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
