Château Carbonnieux Rouge is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves from the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, France. One of the region's most celebrated red wines, it has been produced at Château Carbonnieux for centuries and represents a benchmark of Graves red winemaking. The wine is crafted primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, though the exact blend varies by vintage.
Vinification is carried out using a combination of modern and traditional techniques, employing slow and gentle extraction to preserve the wine's natural roundness and the mineral character of the gravelly Pessac-Léognan terroir. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with approximately 35 to 40 percent new oak, imparting subtle toasted notes while allowing the fruit to remain primary. Only the finest-tasting batches are selected for the final blend.
Aromatically, the wine typically offers a bouquet of ripe black and red fruits — blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, and cherry — with floral accents of violet and peony alongside spicy notes of cedar, tobacco, white pepper, and cloves. On the palate, the tannins are well-structured yet silky and polished, with a balanced, long finish. The wine is suited to cellaring for a minimum of six years, with many vintages developing beautifully over a decade or more.
Serve at 18–19°C. Pairs well with grilled, roasted, or stewed meats, swordfish, tuna, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, cheese, and red fruit or chocolate desserts.
