Belle Glos Dairyman Vineyard Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard California Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley, crafted by owner and winemaker Joseph Wagner. Sold at Costco in a case format of 12 bottles (750ML each), this wine represents Wagner's signature style: layered, complex, fruit-forward, and rich.
The Dairyman Vineyard was once a dairy farm and pastureland in the southern alluvial plains of the Russian River Valley, near the Pacific Ocean. Planted in 2000 with Dijon clones 115, 667, and 777 grafted on low-vigor rootstock 101-14, the vineyard benefits from morning coastal fog that rolls in through the Petaluma Gap and afternoon breezes that moderate the warm afternoon sun. This cool, long growing season yields small, concentrated, and flavorful berries. Each vine is trained on a vertical shoot position (VSP) trellis to limit vigor and open the fruit zone.
The wine is dark plum in color with abundant aromas of dark chocolate, black cherry, sun-ripened blackberry, black currant, and cedar. On the palate it delivers layered flavors of blackberry and raspberry pie filling with notes of cinnamon, chocolate, and nutmeg. It is smooth and focused with refined tannins and a medium finish. ABV is 15%. After destemming, the fruit undergoes a cold soak of up to two weeks before fermentation in stainless steel. The wine is aged in 100% French oak (60% new) for up to nine months and undergoes malolactic fermentation before final blending.
