Digitalis 'Lucas', commonly known as Lucas Foxglove, is a semi-evergreen biennial sold in a 10-inch pot (2.31-gallon). It forms a neat, clump-shaped plant with erect stems, dark-green wrinkled and toothed leaves, and produces tubular pinkish-purple flowers with white speckled throats from early summer through autumn.
This cultivar is an RHS-recognized Plants for Pollinators selection, actively attracting bees and other beneficial insects throughout its bloom season. It grows 0.5 to 1 metre tall with a spread of 0.1 to 0.5 metres, reaching mature height in 1 to 2 years. Hardy to USDA Zones 4โ9, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of soil types including chalk, clay, loam, and sand, as long as drainage is good. Ideal placement is in humus-rich soil in partial shade. It is well suited for cottage gardens, wildlife gardens, patio containers, and flower borders.
Water regularly, allowing soil to dry slightly between waterings. Prune the main flower spike as it fades to encourage the growth of side shoots with additional blooms. May be susceptible to aphids, powdery mildew, and leaf spot.
All parts of this plant are toxic if ingested. Keep away from children, cats, and dogs. Wear gloves when handling.
