Rovertondo Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore is an Italian red wine from the Veneto region, produced by Tinazzi at Tenuta Valleselle. It carries the Ripasso Superiore DOC designation, made using the traditional "ripasso" method in which Valpolicella wine is re-fermented on the dried grape skins left over from producing Amarone, lending the wine added body, depth, and complexity at a more accessible price point than Amarone itself.
The wine is a blend of approximately 75-80% Corvina, 10-15% Rondinella, and 10% Corvinone โ the classic trio of Valpolicella grape varieties. After fermentation, it is aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels, which contributes toasted and spicy nuances to the finished wine. Alcohol content is 14%.
In the glass, Rovertondo pours a bright red with aromas of plums and black cherries well integrated with spicy and toasted notes. On the palate it is full-bodied and balanced, with flavors of dark cherry, cola, and a hint of spice, finishing dry and smooth. Sold in a notably heavy, oversized bottle that makes a strong impression.
