The Organic Hami Melon is a certified organic variety of muskmelon originating from Hami, Xinjiang, China. Also known as the Chinese Hami Melon or Snow Melon, it belongs to the muskmelon family and is characterized by its distinctive oblong shape, netted yellow skin streaked with dark green, and heavy feel relative to its size, typically weighing between 6 and 9 pounds.
The flesh is crisp, juicy, and pale apricot in color with a sweet, floral aroma and a flavor profile similar to a very sweet cantaloupe but with a notably crispier texture—often compared to a ripe apple or Asian pear. At the center is a large seed cavity filled with white or cream-colored seeds. It is best enjoyed fresh: slice lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and eat the flesh directly, cut into chunks, or use a melon baller for fruit salads.
To select a ripe Hami melon, press gently on the sides and stem ends for a slight give, and check that the stem ends emit a fruity aroma. The melon is low in calories and is an excellent source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C, rich in antioxidants, and a good source of potassium. Store cut melon tightly wrapped in the refrigerator for up to a few days.
