El Enemigo Chardonnay is a critically acclaimed white wine from Bodega Aleanna, crafted by master winemaker Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena in the high-altitude Gualtallary sub-region of Mendoza's Uco Valley, Argentina, where vineyards grow at 1,400 to 1,500 meters above sea level.
What distinguishes this Chardonnay is its unconventional aging technique borrowed from the Jura region of France: the wine rests under a thin veil of flor yeast in 500-liter French oak barrels — 35% new — for approximately 10 to 12 months without topping up. The result is a full-bodied wine with a creamy texture and flavors of ripe lemon, apple, honey, and subtle oak, layered with toasty, briny, and refreshing qualities that carry through to a long, saline finish. Certified Sustainable by Bodegas de Argentina, the wine contains 13.5% alcohol by volume.
El Enemigo Chardonnay has received exceptional critical recognition, earning 97 points from James Suckling who named it the #1 Chardonnay on his Top 100 Value Wines of 2023, 94 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and 94 points from Vinous. It pairs beautifully with creamy cheeses such as brie, fresh seafood, pesto chicken, risotto, and summer crudités.
