Maggi Seasoning is a savory liquid seasoning sauce imported from Europe, featuring a deep umami-rich flavor that enhances a wide variety of dishes. Originally developed in Switzerland in the late 19th century, this European version is made from hydrolyzed wheat protein and provides a concentrated, complex taste often described as a blend of soy sauce and Worcestershire, with a flavor similar to the herb lovage. The dark brown sauce delivers a rich, meaty, savory umami punch that goes beyond standard soy sauce.
This versatile all-purpose seasoning can be used in countless ways: add a few drops to marinades, gravies, soups, sauces, stir-fries, noodles, ramen, meat patties, sausages, salad dressings, and vegetable dishes. It serves as an excellent plant-based substitute for meat stock or broth while also enhancing meat dishes. Popular applications include Vietnamese bánh mì sandwich spreads, chimichurri vegetables, breakfast dishes with steak and eggs, and even dill and cabbage soup. Due to its concentrated flavor, only a few dashes are sufficient to improve the taste of your cooking.
This is the authentic European version, which differs from the Asian-produced Maggi Seasoning also sold at some Costco locations. The European formula uses hydrolyzed wheat protein and has a distinctive depth of flavor with added MSG for enhanced umami. The 27 oz bottle contains approximately 160 servings.
