Agricola Punica Samas is a white wine from Sardinia, Italy, produced under the Isola dei Nuraghi IGT designation. Its name is derived from Samas, the Punic and Phoenician God of the Sun, reflecting the winery's deep roots in ancient Sardinian culture.
The wine is a blend of Vermentino and Chardonnay grapes grown in predominantly calcareous and sandy soils. Grapes are hand-harvested at dawn to preserve freshness and varietal character. Whole clusters are cold-pressed in an inert atmosphere using cryomaceration techniques that prevent oxidation. Fermentation takes place with select yeasts at controlled temperatures of 60°F in stainless steel tanks with continuous stirring over approximately 40 days, followed by aging on the lees for 2.5 months. The two varieties are vinified separately, then blended and rested in small concrete vats for 3 months to complete maturation and undergo natural stabilization. The wine is neither filtered nor clarified.
The finished wine displays a vivid straw yellow color with green hints. On the nose it offers aromas of citrus, tropical fruits, and Mediterranean herbs including sage. It is fresh and aromatic on the palate, with 14% alcohol by volume. Sold in 750ML bottles; Costco typically carries this as a case of 12.
