Château Giscours is a Third Growth (Grand Cru Classé en 1855) estate located in the southern Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France. The 2016 vintage is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, aged in 50% new French oak. It is estate-bottled (mis en bouteille au château) and represents one of the most acclaimed recent releases from this historic property.
The wine opens with complex aromas of cassis, black currant, chocolate, earth, tar, pepper, smoky tobacco, truffly earth, and spring flowers, with touches of herbs, hoisin, and bergamot. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with juicy, fine-grained tannins, excellent structure, and a long, filigreed finish. Consulting winemakers Axel Marchal and Valérie Lavigne oversaw production. The 2016 received scores of 97 from James Suckling, 96 from Wine Enthusiast (Cellar Selection), 94 from Decanter, 93 from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and 92 from Wine Spectator.
Best enjoyed from 2026 onward, with a drinking window extending through 2032 and beyond. Ideal with well-marbled grilled meats.
