Buck Shack Bourbon Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold red wine from Shannon Ridge in Lake County, California, aged in freshly emptied bourbon barrels for three months. The winemaking team at Shannon Ridge, led by Director of Winemaking Joy Merrilees, sources high-elevation Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from Lake County to produce this distinctive wine, sold in a 750ml bottle with a whiskey-style bottle design.
Aging Cabernet Sauvignon in bourbon barrels brings out the grape's natural ripe fruit character while softening the tannins and adding a layered, aged balance. Each sip resonates with rich hints of bourbon, blackberry, vanilla, and subtle spice. The wine presents a deep, medium-red color with a dry, smooth finish that evolves with breathing time, making it an approachable yet distinctive expression of California Cabernet Sauvignon. The ABV is approximately 14.8%.
Shannon Ridge was founded in 1995 by Clay and Margarita Shannon and operates using sustainable practices, including a flock of sheep that graze the vineyards to reduce the need for chemicals and provide natural fertilizer. The Buck Shack label takes its name from a century-old skinning shed—"Ye Old Buck Shack"—that stood in the Shannon Ridge vineyards and was later converted into a whiskey bar on the property.
