Kaiyo Cask Strength Japanese Mizunara Oak Whisky is bottled at 53% ABV (106 proof) in a 750ml bottle. This malt whisky is distilled on a coffey still in Japan and initially aged in bourbon barrels before being transferred to handmade Japanese Mizunara oak casks. Mizunara oak is among the rarest cask wood in the world, with each new barrel commanding $6,500 to $7,500, and the wood imparts distinctive notes of incense, sandalwood, and coconut.

The final maturation takes place during a sea voyage of up to three months departing from Osaka, Japan. The cask strength expression delivers bold orange peel and oak spice on the nose, with assertive sandalwood and creamy vanilla on the palate, finishing with deeply concentrated oak character that amplifies the signature Mizunara profile. Despite its high proof, reviewers note it is remarkably soft and approachable.

Kaiyo Cask Strength has earned a Double Gold and Best of Show at the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America competition and received 90 points from Whisky Advocate.
