Jongga Ponytail Radish Kimchi, also known as Chonggak Kimchi, is a traditional Korean fermented side dish made with whole ponytail radish. The name comes from the ponytail-like appearance of the leafy greens attached to the radish, resembling the traditional hairstyles of young bachelors in historical Korea. This kimchi offers a satisfying crunchy texture from the radish bites paired with tangy, flavorful fermented leafy greens.
Made using lower temperature aging to create a refreshing flavor, this kimchi is naturally rich in probiotics that support gut health and boost the immune system. It is one of the most popular kimchi varieties after traditional cabbage kimchi. The product is gluten-free and comes in a convenient 42.3 oz (1.2 kg) container that requires refrigeration. The spice level is regular spicy, with a bright red color from red pepper powder.
Traditionally enjoyed with steaming bowls of rice and Korean stews or soups such as oxtail soup, seolleongtang, or Korean radish soup. It also pairs well with other Korean side dishes like roasted nori or Korean steamed eggs. The whole radish pieces can be cut into smaller bites for easier eating. Available at select Costco locations across the United States in the refrigerated section.
