Suntory Roku is a Japanese craft gin produced at Beam Suntory's Osaka distillery, drawing on more than a century of Japanese distilling heritage. The name "Roku" means "six" in Japanese, a reference to the six quintessentially Japanese botanicals at its core: sakura (cherry blossom) flower, sakura leaf, yuzu peel, sencha green tea, gyokuro refined green tea, and sansho pepper. Each botanical is harvested at peak season across Japan's four seasons to capture the full spectrum of the country's natural flavors.
The production process treats each botanical individually. Delicate botanicals like cherry blossom are vacuum-distilled in stainless steel stills to preserve their subtle aromas, while bolder botanicals like yuzu citrus are processed in traditional copper pot stills. These six Japanese distillates are then blended with eight classic gin botanicals — juniper, coriander, angelica seed, angelica root, cinnamon, cardamom, bitter orange peel, and lemon peel — to create a harmonious East-meets-West fusion.
On the nose, Roku opens with delicate cherry blossoms and fresh floral notes. The palate reveals layers of herbal green tea, sansho pepper warmth, and bright yuzu citrus, all balanced against a backbone of classic juniper. The finish is dry with a refined tannin quality from the gyokuro tea. Bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof), Roku is excellent in a gin and tonic, a Negroni, or served simply over ice with a twist of yuzu peel.
