Haku is a premium Japanese craft vodka produced by the House of Suntory, one of Japan's most storied spirits makers. Distilled from 100% Japanese white rice, the name "Haku" translates to "brilliance" and "white" — a tribute to the meticulous craftsmanship that transforms the simplest of ingredients into something extraordinary.
The production process begins in Kagoshima, in the Kyushu region of Japan, historically renowned for its rice spirit traditions. White rice is first milled and polished, then fermented with "rice koji" to create a mash, which is then distilled through pot stills to produce a pure rice spirit. The liquid undergoes a second distillation through two different processes to build both flavor and volume, before being blended and filtered at Suntory's Liqueur Atelier at the Osaka Plant. The use of proprietary bamboo charcoal filtration — a technique rooted in ancient Japanese culture — gives Haku Vodka its signature clean, smooth, and mellow character by absorbing impurities while imparting subtle minerality.
On the nose, Haku offers a soft, sweet, and delicate floral aroma of rice. On the palate, a rich taste gradually envelops the mouth with the natural sweetness and complex flavor of the rice. The finish is smooth and sophisticated, with a pleasantly lingering sweetness courtesy of the bamboo charcoal filtration process. The bottle itself reflects Japanese aesthetic sensibility — embossed with a pattern inspired by organically moving rice stems and adorned with Junpaku (pure-white) pearlescent washi paper and kanji calligraphy written in sumi ink. Haku Vodka received a Gold Medal at the International Spirits Competition in 2024.
