Jean-Claude Boisset's Pommard 1er Cru "Les Arvelets" is a premier cru Burgundy red wine from the Côte de Beaune appellation in France. The Les Arvelets vineyard sits at the steepest point of the Pommard appellation, positioned on a south-facing slope at the exit of a valley, with clay-limestone soils rich in iron oxide covered with alluvium and silt. The name "arvelet" derives from Latin roots referring to ancient plowing land at this location.
The wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir sourced from vines averaging 45 years old, cultivated using the Guyot pruning system across approximately 0.5158 hectares. Vinification involves aging in French oak barrels for approximately 14 months, using around 35% new oak toasted at low temperatures to preserve the fruit character. The wine expresses aromas of small red fruits and plums with notes of sweet spices and undergrowth. On the palate, it is generous and fresh with fine, silky tannins and excellent aging potential.
Pommard is one of Burgundy's most celebrated appellations, with winemaking roots dating back to the Middle Ages when its wines were shipped to the Popes of Avignon. This bottle contains 750ml and is sold as a case of six.
