The Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia) is a popular ornamental deciduous tree native to Asia and widely prized across Southern U.S. landscapes for its vibrant, long-lasting summer blooms and exceptional heat tolerance. This Costco offering provides assorted varieties in a ready-to-plant 9.9-gallon container, giving established root structure for a strong start in your garden.
Crape Myrtles produce large, showy flower clusters in a range of colors including pink, purple, red, and white. Blooms can last up to 120 days through summer, providing color when many other plants are not in season. Beyond the flowers, these trees feature distinctive exfoliating bark that peels away to reveal a smooth, colorful trunk underneath — adding year-round visual interest even in winter when the tree is leafless. Mature height varies by variety from 6 to 30 feet, making them suitable for use as specimen trees, privacy screens, borders, or accent plantings.
Plant in a location with full sun (at least 6 hours daily) and well-draining soil. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, Crape Myrtles are highly drought-tolerant and low-maintenance. Fertilize in early spring with a slow-release balanced fertilizer, and prune lightly in late winter to encourage abundant summer flowering. Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 6–9. Growth rate is fast, with spacing recommendations of 12–18 feet between trees. Pet-safe.
