Nittardi Ad Astra is an organic red blend from the Maremma Toscana DOC appellation in Tuscany, Italy, produced by Fattoria Nittardi. The name is drawn from the Latin phrase "Per Aspera Ad Astra" — meaning "through hardship to the stars" — reflecting the winery's philosophy that great wine demands dedicated effort in the vineyard.
The wine is sourced from Nittardi's Mongibello delle Mandorlaie estate, with certified organic vineyards planted at approximately 250 meters in elevation and just 8 kilometers from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot, earning 93 points from James Suckling.
Ad Astra opens with a deep ruby color and expressive aromas of ripe plum, dark berries, lavender, licorice, and hints of chocolate. On the palate it is generous and layered, with red and black fruit, subtle spice, and a touch of menthol that adds freshness. The finish is long, with floral and savory undertones. Best enjoyed with grilled meats, lamb, aged cheeses, or hearty pasta dishes.
