Bodegas CARO is a celebrated Argentinian red wine born from a prestigious collaboration between two legendary wine dynasties: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) of Bordeaux and the Catena family of Mendoza. The name "CARO" is derived from the first two letters of each family — CAtena and ROthschild — symbolizing their shared commitment to crafting wines of exceptional elegance and terroir expression.
Each 750ml bottle presents a blend of 79% Malbec and 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from vineyards in the Uco Valley sub-regions of Paraje Altamira, San Pablo, and Gualtallary, situated at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level at the foothills of the snowcapped Andes Mountains. The ancient alluvial soils and calcareous limestone deposits of the former Tunuyan riverbed contribute mineral depth and refined complexity. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected before a 20-day maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels crafted by Tonnellerie des Domaines in Pauillac (80% new oak), adding structure and subtle spice while preserving fresh fruit character.
The wine opens with a complex nose of red fruits, figs, and delicate blueberry notes, with hints of cassis and graphite. On the palate it is well-balanced and round, with soft, polished tannins, refreshing acidity, and impressive length. Recent vintages have earned exceptional critical acclaim, including 97 points from both Tim Atkin and Decanter, 95 points from James Suckling and Vinous, and 93 points from Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator. ABV: 14.5%.
