Fontanafredda Silver Label Barolo DOCG is a 100% Nebbiolo red wine from the celebrated Barolo appellation of Piedmont, Italy. Representing the historic, traditional style of Barolo, this wine blends grapes sourced from all 11 communes within the Barolo production zone — an approach that has defined the estate since its founding in 1858. Fontanafredda is the largest certified organic winery in Piedmont and the largest contiguous wine estate in the Langhe, with 247 acres of vineyards spanning Serralunga d'Alba and seven additional municipalities at altitudes between 200 and 400 meters.
Fermentation takes place over approximately 15 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats at 86–88°F, with frequent pump-overs, followed by extended maceration to optimize phenolic extraction and begin malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for a minimum of two years in large Slovenian and French oak casks, then bottle-aged for at least eight months before release. It presents a clean, full, and intense nose of withered flowers, dry leaves, and underbrush, with notes of cherry, blood orange, and fresh leather. The palate is robust and well-bodied, with firm acidity and structured tannins that provide freshness and a lingering finish. The 2019 vintage earned 96 points from Jeb Dunnuck, 91 points from Wine Spectator, and 90 points from James Suckling, with a recommended drinking window extending to 2042–2047. 14% ABV, sealed with a natural cork.
