This is a Fronsac Bordeaux from the right bank of Bordeaux, a region west of Saint-Émilion known for Merlot-based blends. The wine displays dark ruby color with aromas of dark fruit and spice. It is full-bodied with a rich combination of red and dark berry fruit flavors, touches of mocha, spice, and earthy notes that come together in a harmonious finish.
The estate was created in 1998 by Arnaud Roux-Oulié, a third-generation winemaker and double champion of France in fencing who is also a painter. The château name honors Emperor Charlemagne, who stayed in the Fronsac region and built a fortress there. Since the 2020 vintage, the estate produces organic wines. The property represents one of the flagship estates of the Fronsac appellation with international distribution.
14.5% alcohol by volume. CostcoWineBlog.com rated this wine 90 points, describing it as a perfect expression of Fronsac terroir and an excellent wine at a discounted price.
