Yuu Baal Mezcal Joven Espadín is an artisanal unaged (joven) mezcal produced in San Juan del Río, Oaxaca, Mexico by master mezcalero Isaías Martínez Juan. Made from farm-grown espadín agave (Agave angustifolia), this spirit is fermented in pine vats and double distilled in copper pot stills, following traditional Oaxacan production methods. Bottled at 48% ABV (96 proof), it is sold in a 1.0L format — a generous size well-suited to both sipping and cocktail use.
On the nose, the mezcal offers aromas of smoke, sweet cooked agave, citrus, and light floral notes, with some batches showing hints of fruit, pollen, and dried herbs. The palate delivers good heat balanced by light smoke, citrus pith, grape jelly, and a creamy mouthfeel, with a bittersweet finish. Flavors can vary by lot, as each batch is numbered individually. It is approachable enough to enjoy neat and versatile enough for cocktails such as mezcal margaritas or negroni riffs.
Grupo Yuu Baal is a social enterprise rooted in the indigenous mezcal traditions of Oaxaca's native producers. Planting, harvesting, and distillation are all done by hand with respect for the environment and local craft.
