Holly Assorted Varieties in a #5 (5-gallon) nursery container, featuring an assortment of holly (Ilex) shrub varieties selected for year-round landscape appeal. The specific variety may include popular types such as English holly (Ilex aquifolium), Japanese holly (Ilex crenata), Blue holly (Ilex x meserveae), Inkberry (Ilex glabra), American holly (Ilex opaca), or Winterberry holly (Ilex verticillata), depending on availability at your local warehouse.
Holly plants are prized for their attractive evergreen or deciduous foliage, small white spring flowers, and ornamental berries in shades of red, white, yellow, purple, or black. The berries provide valuable winter food for songbirds and other wildlife. With a slow to moderate growth rate of 6 to 24 inches per year, holly shrubs work beautifully in foundation plantings, privacy hedges, mixed borders, and container gardens. Most varieties prefer full sun to partial shade and slightly acidic, well-draining soil.
Plant in a location with at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight and water regularly until established. Note that nearly all holly varieties are dioecious, meaning both a male and female plant are required for berry production. Holly berries contain saponins and are mildly to moderately toxic โ keep away from children and pets.
