Lilacs are beloved deciduous shrubs renowned for their intensely fragrant spring blooms, which appear in dense upright clusters (panicles) ranging in color from white and pink to lavender, purple, and deep magenta depending on the variety. These easy-to-grow shrubs are hardy, long-lived, and relatively low-maintenance once established, and can thrive for 100 or more years.

Lilacs thrive in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day and prefer fertile, humus-rich, well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH around 7.0. They bloom on old wood, so pruning should be performed immediately after flowering in spring to protect next season's buds.
