Weigela is a classic deciduous flowering shrub prized for its abundant tubular blooms in spring and ornamental foliage. Sold in a #5 container (approximately 2.8 gallon / 10.6 liter), these Costco plants are offered in assorted varieties, which may include popular cultivars with rose-pink, red, white, or magenta flowers and foliage ranging from deep purple to green or variegated.
Hardy in USDA Zones 4–8, weigela thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-draining soil with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Mature size varies by variety, typically reaching 2–6 feet tall and wide. The tubular blossoms are highly attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies, making weigela an excellent choice for pollinator-friendly landscapes. It is not considered toxic to pets or children.
Plant in spring or fall for best establishment. Water regularly until roots are established, then water deeply during extended dry spells. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Prune right after the spring bloom to preserve next year's flower buds. Weigela is largely deer-resistant and virtually pest-free when grown in healthy conditions.
