Fattoria Le Pupille Saffredi is an iconic Super Tuscan red wine from the Maremma region of Tuscany, Italy, produced by Fattoria Le Pupille — an estate spanning more than 400 hectares of organically farmed land set inland at approximately 300 meters elevation with views of the Tyrrhenian coast. The wine was originally developed under the vision of proprietor Elisabetta Geppetti with guidance from legendary winemaker Giacomo Tachis, and it stands as one of the original Super Tuscans that helped define Tuscany's international reputation for world-class wine.
The Saffredi is a Bordeaux-inspired blend composed of approximately 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot, classified as IGT Toscana. It offers an elegant and complex bouquet with aromas of fresh Tuscan coastal herbs — sage, mint, rosemary, and thyme — alongside blueberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, sweet spices, tobacco, and oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with fine, chewy tannins showing beautiful length and refinement. Alcohol is approximately 15%. The wine is built for aging and has consistently earned outstanding scores from major critics, including 98 points from James Suckling, 96 from Vinous, 95 from both Decanter and Wine Advocate, and 94 from Wine Spectator for recent vintages.
